Maier Racing was founded in California in 1969 to supply Mustang enthusiasts with performance parts. Today, it's known for its carbon fibre work, so when we went looking for the best Model 3 aero parts which are functional but also look the part, Maier was the obvious choice.
These spoilers are made in California by hand using plain weave Toray carbon fibre 3k TOE, 200gsm dry. A layer of fibreglass is used in the middle for impact damage stability. Marine grade polyester resins & clear gel coat address UV stability.
All of these spoilers are made in the same way. Clear gel coat, carbon fibre, then fibreglass in the middle for some damage toughness, and finally another layer of carbon fibre.
The large spoiler weighs 1800g, and measures 142cm long, 18cm wide, 9cm tall.
The small spoiler weighs 1350g, and measures 142cm long, 10cm deep 7cm tall.
The car shown is fitted with the small spoiler. The large and small version are shown together in the third photo.
The 9cm tall spoiler extends off the boot lid far enough to pick up some clean air to add downforce with limited drag. This allows the driver to feel more comfortable at high speeds. The large spoiler was designed specifically for a U.S. Time Attack event entry and resulted in a class win.
With the right materials, the install is relatively easy with: 3M adhesive promoter #06396 and double sided tape #06383. Some tape is included attached to each spoiler.
Maier's goal is always to make perfect parts although subtle distortions in the weave or pin holes in the gel coat can happen.
